I ran into these guys at on the morning leaving Biloela some where near Gayndah before Ban Ban Springs. Some very relaxed blokes and gals doing what every biker hopes to be doing at that age. Riding their bike with friends !

Mustings of a road trip to Mackay

August 21st, 2009

I have so much to be thankful for.

I arrived safely, didn’t have any bike problems even on that great adventure on wheel track dirt with rocks.

Abercrombie River onwards I rode ever forward into the rain. Those clouds I saw at Lithgow outside the diner were now pouring their contents all the way to Goulburn. Thankfully I made it over the Abercrombie NP mountainous peak with only heavy spits on my leather pants.

The Puncture Street Bike Kit did not get used. The Chain Lube was exhausted outside Warwick.

I had made a mistake upon leaving Gloucester in getting to Putty Road. On Blackbutts road instead of heading left towards Singleton on Dungog road I continued onwards enjoying the early morning bends, rises and falls the road had to offer.

So take care, Blackbutts road will add an hour to your journey. I could have used this hour in crossing the Abercrombie NP. It is a good thing I had brought my wet weather gear having put them on, on the Abercrombie NP plateau just before the downhill crossing.

I was making good time having faith in my Dunlop Roadsmarts tyres. They had performed well on the highways and on the bends. I had them scrubbed to the edge and they were tracking true through the rain. I had one back wheel slide but was prepared as I had seen the glossy pool of water on the road up a head. Ease off the throttle, straighten the bike somewhat and ride through the slide.

It is easy to forget that Abercrombie NP is 700 meters high covered with a blanket forested trees. It is after all the last remaining intact path of low open forest in the south–west central tablelands of NSW. There are not many remaining forests so close to us in Canberra.

With the rain drenching received on the way home, the bike and leathers got cleaned of all bugs, road grime and muck. It was quite full and windy from Goulburn onwards, I was looking forward to the Lake George mountain cover. With the Yellow Leather making me visible and the wind blocked the ride back home was comfortable.

More to come later. cheri-o Yellow Leather

You and your Bike

June 14th, 2009

hi all :)

have you been for a ride lately.. was it a new road or an old favourite… did you ride it fast, slow or where you just cruising ?

how do you ride a new road… all out like the others or do you cruise it, getting to know it before you wrench the throttle…do you feel the road ?

do you ride familiar roads differently….take different lines, deeper ? … sharper ? have you started to trail the rear ?

have you ever noticed, once stopped, your heart racing…. THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP….THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP…..THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP.

how do you ride… is it flat out then rest, or is it a steady pace eating up the k’s…….do you do track day’s or do you prefer rally’s… both…neither ?

do you ride alone or in a group… if in a group do you keep formation or do you tear away… are you a leader, a follower or the tail end charlie.. why is it named charlie ?

are you a music rider or not… if not what do you think of to ease the mind.. maths questions ? heres one: if there are 4 boys in the room and 6 girls, then 24 more girls come in, how many boys must come to keep the mix the same ?

when fueling up, do you fuel on the right side of the tank or the left.. do you take off your helmet when paying… do you fill to the brim ?

are you a leather person or textile…knee scrapers or Air Hawk…tinted visor or clear with sunnies…do you always wear gloves..always ?…even for a run to the local shops

do you warm the bike up or just hop on it and go? how regularly do you check air pressure.. oil, brake fluid, battery fluid, chain..are you a service at home person or do you take it to the shop…

has your bike ever gotten you a woman/man…both?… does your partner ride or do they worry…do you worry for your partner ? will you take your children riding…pillioned your partner ?

Next time you see a motorcyclist’s look closely and you will see…. confidence, reservedness, wariness, attentiveness, seriousness, jovality, and peacefulness.

Until next time, ride safe, ride well, ride smooth

Core Beliefs: Harnessing the Power

June 3rd, 2009

Core Beliefs are deep-seated perceptions that everyone has about the world in which we live, work and play. They impact on how we think, feel and behave as well as how we interact with other people and our general view of the world.

Its another personality categorizer similar to Myers Briggs. What makes it interesting for me is not what someone thinks my personality is but seeing if the three (3) motorcyclists in our group each had the same personality and how our personalities affect our choice of bike and riding style.

According to Core Beliefs i am a profile 7 a Epicures: as an Epicures i believe i must keep life up and open to assure a good life. Consequently i am optimistic, upbeat, possibility and pleasure seeking and adventurous, but i can also be pain-avoidant, uncommitted and self serving.

Well life is beautiful when your on your bike riding through the right hander getting ready to flip it left and right again before powering out and overtaking a cager. Who wouldn’t want to be an Epicures.

Another colleague is a Profile 6 a Loyal Sceptic: they believe you must gain protection and security in a hazardous world you just cant trust. Consequently they are themselves trustworthy, inquisitive, good friends and questioning, but can also be overly doubtful, accusatory and fearful.

This colleague owns a Suzuki DL 650 VStrom and rides mostly on dirt. In fact all of his bike have been dirt.

The third colleague is a Profile 2 a Giver: they believe you must give fully to other to be love. Consequently they are caring, helpful, supportive and relationship-orientated but can also be prideful overly intrusive and demanding.

This colleague rides a 250 Regal Raptor . She doesn’t own a car and rides it rain hail shine or snow. I think she’s uber.

So, what does your bike tell you about your personality ? Does it make you feel like this

or like this
